Events take place in Lambersart on the 22nd and 23rd September and in Southborough on the 20th and 21st October so please put these dates in the diary.

The Lambersart programme incorporates a reception in the Mairie for the English and German delegates on Saturday followed by lunch, a guided tour of Lille and aperitifs and a dinner dance in the evening. There will also be a mini concert given by the Lambersart Harmonic Orchestra and local choirs at which our “Mellow Cellos’ quartet will also perform. On Sunday morning, the formal friendship ceremonies will take place including a wreath laying at the War Memorial, a few speeches, the renewal of the Charter, an exchange of gifts and the inauguration of an exhibition celebrating the 20 years of our twinning. After lunch in the afternoon, there will be a boat trip on the pretty River Deûle which flows through Lambersart and a tired delegation will leave for home at around 5.00pm.

In Southborough, the French delegation will arrive at Honnington Farm on Saturday for a welcome reception, including some prize winning English sparkling wine, and a typical ploughman’s lunch prepared by the Rusbridge Family Bakery in the newly refurbished barn. After lunch, we will all be taken on a guided tour of the gardens where there will be some Morris dancers too.

In the evening, there will be cocktails and a dinner dance at the Salomons Centre. We are hoping to organise a musical interlude during the cocktails - hopefully ‘Women in Harmony’, the group Pat Heyward-Young was so fond of. The dinner will be followed by the cutting of the cake, the usual speeches, an exchange of presents and our turn to renew the Charter. Live music afterwards will be provided by one of our local bands ‘The Winchesters’ until midnight. On Sunday, we will be going on a guided tour of Southborough Common led by local historian Fiona Woodfield. She has identified eight different spots where there are significant points of interest to talk about. Afterwards, we will have lunch at Meadows School with the catering provided by Café Bliss and a chance to explore the grounds. At the school there will be an exhibition of Southborough photos past and present and if it is raining, Fiona will be able to present her entire talk and lead a ‘virtual’ tour of the Common from the School hall.

We have been offered 20 places at the Lambersart weekend to be split between Councillors and other members. Accommodation will be ‘en famille’. Requests to be included on the visit will have to be on a first come first served basis but Lambersart will be happy to welcome more visitors if they are prepared to pay for two meals and accommodation – there should be more than enough room on the coach. All SHDOFA members are very welcome to attend each of the events we have planned for the October weekend and indeed are encouraged to do so – the more the merrier! We don’t have a complete idea of costs as yet but to give you an idea, there will be the two lunches and the Salomons dinner to pay for. As soon as this has been accurately costed we will let you know. There will also be the opportunity to host some of our French guests, of whom there will also be 20. It would be particularly helpful if members could complete the accompanying ‘Expression of Interest’ form as soon as possible to help with the overall planning and costing exercises.

AND THEY SAY ENGLISH IS CONFUSING!

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

Nous portions nos portions.
Les poules du couvent, couvent
Mes fils ont cassé mes fils
Il est de l’est.
Je vis ces vis
Les poissons affluent d'un affluent de la rivière.

RIDGEWAYE FC IN LAMBERSART

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

Our U12 boys were delighted to receive the invitation from Southborough’s twinned town of Lambersart to play in their Easter International football tournament. Where is Lambersart was the first question. Most of us knew the name but had no clue of its whereabouts. Well now we know, it’s a very pretty and rather smart suburb of Lille. The Iris Club Lambersart boasts fabulous all weather pitches and a large stand which proved an extra bonus on a rather damp Easter Sunday. Our hosts kindly gave the boys a bed for the night so they could be ready for the 8am start the next morning.

Well that was the theory except they did not look particularly ready and were caught rather off guard looking at their young age in an U13 tournament. They suffered a fairly heavy defeat to who turned out to be the eventual Champion League winners. However, they rallied in their usual spirit and were soon back in their winning ways looking to claim their place in the ‘Champions League’ leg of the tournament and seemed to be doing so with some comfort. That was until they met another Lambersart team and what should have been a fairly easy victory was in fact a 1-0 defeat and Ridgewaye found themselves in the ‘Europa League’ instead.

A baguette for lunch and the afternoon’s matches were underway. It has to be said that Ridgewaye saved their best football for the Europa league and collected the Europa Cup with some panache. So the boys, after a long day of keenly fought matches, climbed on their team coach for the journey home happily weary with the knowledge that they acquitted themselves extremely well both on and off the pitch. Not many teams have won in Europe this season!

The farewells to our hosts were with promises of “see you next year” and “you must let us host you in Southborough”. Those sentiments were not simply a wish to put right our exit from the ‘Champions’ League’ but a genuine hope to build on our links with this town in France with whom we share so many things not least of which is a love of the game of football played with skill and great spirit.

Scott Bartlett
Ridgewaye Football Club

LA GRANDE DAME DU THÉATRE

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

Some might say it would be impolite to describe our Chairman, Colette Marsh, as a drama queen but taken literally it is in fact a realistic assessment as anyone who has seen her performances, both rehearsed and impromptu, will testify.

At last, her time strutting the boards in many different roles and guises with a number of different amateur dramatic groups has been recognised. The event was attended by a delegation of 9 Lambersartois who stayed ‘en famille’ for the weekend which was accompanied by the sort of fine Summer weather of which we now only have fond memories. On Saturday, a number of our French visitors were able to visit Daisy Fletcher, our Hon. Founder Chairman, at Rusthall Lodge. Daisy was in good form and even spoke a smattering of French. Later that evening, our French friends were treated to an English fish and chip supper at Café Bliss, the community project in Southborough, at which the Mayor, Cllr. Mrs. Jacqui Jedrzejewski, was also present. At the AGM, Jacqui, in her role as President of SHDOFA, spoke warmly about the twinning association and the opportunity to renew old friendships, especially in this our 20th Anniversary year and Gérard Tancré, Président of Amitiés Internationales spoke in a similar vein. Thereafter, the business element was dealt with fairly quickly since this time there were no committee elections.

Lunch was again the usual carvery held in the Science Theatre at Salomons during which time the Buss Murton Shield for outstanding achievement was presented by the Mayor to the four young musicians who form the ‘Mellow Cellos’ quartet.

After lunch, with the cellos installed on stage and the Welte organ in the background, the quartet treated us to an amazing mini concert which left the audience breathless with delight and wanting more. We have been paying a lot of attention to this objective and are very pleased to be able to report some progress.

St Matthews Primary School in High Brooms is particularly keen to establish a partnership with a similar school in Lambersart and Vicky Davies, a Year 3 teacher at the school, was able to meet the Lambersart delegation at our AGM in order to move things forward. Our friends in Lambersart have commenced the process of finding a suitable school in the Lambersart area and the sorts of activities which are envisaged include; internet communication via Skype, e-mails, photos, and school projects. Vicky speaks French and runs a French club at the school for children between the ages of 6 and 9 years. It’s a good thing to start young and we wish this project a long and successful future.

All of us who attended the AGM in March (see p.4) were treated to a virtuoso performance by the ‘Mellow Cellos’, a quartet of young musicians who are certainly making a good impression and not just locally. They so impressed our French guests that they have accepted an invitation to play in Lambersart in September at their celebrations to mark the 20th Anniversary of our twinning. As if that were not enough they have also been invited to perform at the ‘Festival of Silent Film in Concert’ in Lambersart next Spring where they will be playing six pieces including ‘The Entertainer’ which they also played for us. Congratulations to the ‘quatuor’. What an achievement!

Congratulations are also due to the Ridgewaye Sweepers Under 12s boys’ team who participated in Lambersart’s Club Iris International Competition during the Easter holidays. They stoically worked their way through their league and collected the ‘Europa Cup’ in the process. As Scott Bartlett, the club’s Vice Chairman pointed out, “not many English clubs have won in Europe this season”. See p 5 for a full report of the event.

Both our towns have plenty of clubs, associations and excellent facilities to benefit from these types of exchanges and although Southborough is rather short of schools it does have plenty of young people who go to schools nearby. We are lucky to have a twin town which does so much for its youth and is keen to actively encourage international participation. Lambersart is also twinned with Viersen in Germany and has links with Kaniv in Ukraine (as does Southborough) and with Czluchow in Poland so events tend to be truly multicultural. The town is also at the forefront of promoting 'Europeanness" and recently became one of only 18 towns in France to obtain the national diploma for 'European Citizenship'. Every year there is a full programme of youth activities in which we are invited to participate and which are free, apart from the cost of getting there. Although we have often found it difficult to surmount some of the regulatory difficulties, time constraints and busy school agendas in arranging trips, we cannot help but think they represent a worthwhile activity. Over the next year or so we intend to work with Lambersart and all other

interested parties to discover how best we can ensure as many of our young people as possible are able to take advantage of the opportunities on offer. If you are involved with a group or a school and would like to be involved in these discussions or if you know anyone in a similar position, please let us know so that we can put you on our mailing list and keep you fully advised as to what is going on at an early stage. You may even wish to become a corporate member of SHDOFA. That way we won’t have to leave things to the last minute which is when problems often occur.

PATRICIA HEYWARD-YOUNG

Patricia Heyward-Young, a resident of Pembury, was a member of SHDOFA for many years before becoming a very hard working member of the committee. She devoted a lot of her time to the French language both by learning and speaking it whenever the opportunity arose. Trips across the Channel were a very good excuse to sample the goodies of the “cuisine and culture” of Lambersart. Having attended many AGMs and taken part in coach trips with the Lambersartois to Germany, Belgium and local places, she was always the first to offer hospitality to our visitors when it was their turn to come to Southborough. Her love of gardening showed whenever she visited anywhere, not being averse to “obtaining” a cutting or two.

Her Morris Minor car was her pride and joy much to the envy of our overseas friends who would try and have a ride in it. After leaving school, Pat worked for an agricultural firm and then became Secretary Receptionist and general support to Dr. Howell, a much respected general practitioner in Brenchley. Medical Secretary studies then followed. After completing many years at the Kent and Sussex Hospital as Secretary to Mr. Tim Williams, Consultant Surgeon, she went on to become his private secretary at Fordcombe.

Amongst her extra-curricular activities, Pat held a French speaking group at her home every Wednesday afternoon as part of the Pembury U3A group. She also attended a French Conversation group with some members of SHDOFA. A member of Pembury church choir and Green Room Theatre Club, Pat was forever on the go and spent the rest of her time tending to her beautiful garden. She was a Council member of AMSPAR (Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers and Receptionists) and Regional Representative for Kent and Sussex, often lecturing to college students. She organised several study days in Tunbridge Wells and conferences all over the country. The ever keen gardener, on one such event Pat, as usual, acquired some cuttings of various different mints. Not having time to return to the room before the next lecture, she kept them in her handbag. She reluctantly had to give up this activity eventually due to pressure of work. However, singing was a great joy to her. She was a past member of the Tunbridge Wells Choral Society and up to the time of her death was part of “Women in Harmony”. The choir sang at our AGM two years ago and attended her funeral in full regalia which showed the respect and friendship they all had for her, singing one of the songs she always used to “giggle” at. The church was full with family and friends, including five members of Amitiés Internationales, who traveled over from Lambersart, together with representatives from SHDOFA, the Green Room Club, U3A and other worshippers. Homages were paid in both French and English and the service ended with the church choir singing the Nunc Dimittis.

AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM?

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

Comment font les éléphants pour se cacher ?
Facile - ils portent des lunettes noires !
Vous avez déjà vu un éléphant avec des lunettes ?
Non mais c'est normal, ils sont bien cachés....

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Dear Friends,

Plans to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the twinning of Southborough & High Brooms with the town of Lambersart in France are well in hand. Congratulations to the Southborough football team, the Ridgewaye Sweepers, for their recent triumph in Lambersart. You can read an account of their exploits on this blog.
I want to thank the committee for all the excellent work that they have undertaken to further other friendships and involvements. Sometimes successful, sometimes not so successful but keep up the good work. St Matthews School has expressed a wish to form a connection with a primary school in Lambersart. A programme of events is being put together on both sides of the Channel to mark the occasion and these are scheduled for September in Lambersart and in October in Southborough.

In addition, we have the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations to look forward to in June. SHDOFA will be joining with other local community groups and participating in the events which are currently being planned for the bank holiday week.

Our pétanque teams are looking forward to the start of the new season and new players are always welcome. We will be taking our pétanque stand to a number of fetes during the summer. The stall created a lot of interest last year and the pétanque competitions, where every one could have a go, proved to be very popular.

During the summer we also hope to have at least one coach trip to France. Current ideas include Montreuil-sur-mer, where Victor Hugo set some of ‘Les Misérables’. We might even be able to stay on overnight and watch the ‘son et lumière’ performance of the novel if there is enough interest. If not, we can always call in at le Touquet too which is not far away.

The barbecue is a firmly established annual event and this year will be no exception. Our first DVD evening was also popular and even without a knowledge of French, ‘Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis’ was very funny and hugely entertaining. We will be doing it again in the Autumn.

The AGM and lunch will take place on 11 March by which time we will have firmed up on these ideas. Hopefully, some of you will have seen our stall at the TS Brilliant Fun Day in May and at the Gala Day at Meadows School in June which has helped raise our profile within the community. A major attraction on both occasions turned out to be our pétanque competition which everyone could have a go at and it was amazing to see how addictive some people found the game to be. Pétanque has been an ongoing theme for us with regular sessions at the new ‘piste’ in Yew Tree Road. We now have over a dozen players and can easily field two or three teams which usually consist of four members each. Yet more encouraging is that we are gradually getting to grips with the rules and even with some of the tactics. These were used to great advantage when we trounced Tonbridge French Circle in September in what for us was our first ‘official’ match.

In June our twin town of Lambersart, near Lille in North Eastern France, joins with a number of nearby communes which are all connected by the River Deûle for the Fête de la Deûle. A weekend of fun, festivities and fireworks as well as numerous races between a number of weird so called ‘flying machines’ belching out fire and smoke all over the participating villages. It is also the time when the riverside beach makes its annual appearance in Lambersart. 700 tonnes of sand are imported together with palm trees, sun-loungers, children’s play equipment and a guinguette for eating, music and dancing. Some of our members were able to go and were hosted en famille. The locals certainly know how to enjoy themselves and we hope we can go again next year.

We try to organise at least one coach trip to France each year and this time we went to Arras for the day. The town, with its fine old centre, is said to be one of the prettiest in northern France. Around its two large squares are magnificent, restored seventeenth and eighteenth-century mansions built in the Flemish style as well as a grandly ornate, gothic Town Hall, not to mention the wide selection of cafés and restaurants.

The main purpose of the trip, however, was to visit the “Wellington Quarries” where 24,000 British and New Zealand troops lived for 6 months in the tunnels 20 metres underneath the town close to the German front line before breaking out for a major offensive in April 1917. Needless to say, this was a moving experience. It also reminded us of the importance of mutual understanding and strong relationships with our overseas’ neighbours, which is one of the major objectives of our twinning association.

North Eastern France has seen more than its fair share of conflict over the years. Nowadays, Lambersart is also twinned with Viersen, a town in Germany. On the 11th November, delegations from both Southborough and Viersen will be visiting Lambersart for their annual Armistice Commemoration. This year, being 11-11-11, is a special one and each of the nationalities will be laying wreaths at the town war memorial and at the British and German cemeteries in a display of international co-operation which would not have been possible during much of our turbulent histories.

Back on home soil, we managed to select one of the few sunny days in August for our annual barbecue having put up with rain on the previous three occasions. Hopefully, the weather won’t be an issue for our DVD evening in late October when we shall be showing a selection of French films – with English sub-titles of course! Soon we will be putting together our programme for next year and without a doubt the major event will be our 20th birthday celebrations in October. A full programme of events will be available ahead of our AGM next March.

The SHDOFA Constitution emphasises community activities and encourages visits in both directions by people of all ages to foster friendship and mutual understanding of the cultural, recreational, educational and commercial activities of both towns. We would like to do even more to further this objective so if you think you, either as an individual or as an organisation, like the sound of it and would like to be involved please contact our chairperson, Mrs Colette Marsh, on 01892 525042. We were off to Arras to see where, 94 years earlier, as many as 24,000 British and New Zealand soldiers camped for 6 months in the tunnels 20 metres underneath the town only a matter of yards from the German front line. We were met at the tunnels by Thérèse and François Dupont, our very good friends from Lambersart, who stayed with us for the rest of the day.

The original tunnels were in fact medieval limestone quarries but were tunneled out further by the New Zealand sappers to form a vast network of underground quarters. In tribute to the New Zealand troops, the complex was named the Wellington Quarry. The murky fog we had traveled through that morning, together with a temperature of only 11 degrees in the tunnels were enough to send a chill through the spine as the realisation of what these men must have gone through became increasingly apparent as we were comfortably shown round by our guide.

We were only there for an hour or so and we had the benefit of electric light, well preserved walkways and strong railings to hold onto. We could come out whenever we wanted. They were not so lucky as they lived, slept, ate and prayed down there for weeks on end without seeing the light of day, wondering what on earth was going to happen to them and what sort of hell they would face when they finally broke out. The signs and notices on the walls looked as if they could have been written yesterday and the holograms which, with the benefit of modern technology, appeared from time to time, together with the sights and sounds of the troops talking and singing only added to the illusion.

The breakout came at 5.30 am on the 9th April 1917 with the troops pouring out of 20 different exit tunnels simultaneously. The Battle of Arras had begun and the Allies soon established the advantage of their surprise attack. Unfortunately it was short lived. After the first day they hesitated long enough for German reinforcements to arrive and the ensuing engagement dragged on for the best part of a month at a cost of 4,000 lives a day. If ever there was a lesson to be learned from these events it is surely that mutual understanding and the development of strong relationships with our overseas’ neighbours are vital in ensuring peace and stability whatever our differences. In a small way, organisations such as ours, and the many others like it, can play a part in preventing such a thing from happening again.

Unfortunately the fog in the morning had delayed our ferry and we were somewhat short of time to visit the rest of the town properly. We were able to have a quick look around the Place des Héros and the Grand Place as well as the fair which occupied it that day. Nevertheless, we had enough of a taster to want to return for a more detailed exploration and hopefully we can organise something next year.

(Please see Spring/Summer Newsletter for more information about Arras)

ET QUELQUES PETITES BLAGUES ?

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

Deux escargots se promènent sur ‘Lambersart plage’ en juin. It was also the day of our annual barbecue. This event has been accompanied by varying degrees of rain for each of the past 3 years ranging from intermittent drizzle to downright torrential, as was the case last year. No need to erect the gazebos this time and no need for plan B or plan C. Just a plain old-fashioned barbecue on a hot, sunny summer’s afternoon. The summer barbecue is always an enjoyable event but this time the weather really did provide a great lift although the dégustations of Petit Pont from ‘our’ wine merchant in Ardres may have helped too.

Whatever the weather, one of the reasons for the success of this event each year is the way so many people eagerly pitch in preparing food, making tea and coffee, organising the raffle, washing up etc and this year was no exception.

Thirty-three people attended including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor together with a few old friends including Richard and Diana Blackwell who, despite having moved away, remain staunch supporters of SHDOFA. The event raised £226.71, more than half our annual fund raising target towards next year’s 20th birthday celebrations.

LA PÉTANQUE, ÇA FAIT DU BIEN

Early in the summer SHDOFA set up its stall at two events namely the TS Brilliant Fun Day in May and the Gala Day at Meadows School in June. Very strong winds defied all efforts to keep our archive photographs and balloons firmly in one place as well as testing our ingenuity in keeping the gazebo anchored down. Despite these difficulties, the events not only provided the opportunity to raise our profile in the community but they also enabled us to try out our new pétanque competition. It is amazing how addictive some people found the game to be.

We learnt a lot from the experience and gained a few new members along the way. It is definitely an activity to be continued next year and fits in well with our objectives and the ongoing “Forward Thinking” project.

Throughout the summer months Maurice Verrall built up an ever-increasing band of aspiring boulistes, including the new members, who gathered at the Copse in Yew Tree Road to master the art of pétanque under the expert tutelage of Colin Murrells, our chef d’équipe. The practice sessions were a great success and proved to be excellent social occasions as well as good sporting workouts.

All the hard work came to fruition on 11th September for our first ‘official’ match against two teams from the Tonbridge French Circle. Modesty restrains us from crowing too much about the result which was subsequently, albeit euphemistically, described by Tonbridge as a ‘narrow victory’ for SHDOFA. Suffice it to say that all the members of our two teams turned out to be star players and did us proud and happily nobody had to ‘faire Fanny’ – (if you need an explanation of this expression please contact the Editor).

The players were: Colin Murrells and members of Colin’s family, Trevor Poile, Ken Poonoosamy, Bob Marsh, Clive Eastwood and Maurice Verrall. Since our official trophy had been lost to Lambersart last year, a temporary one consisting of a large French onion in a pot was presented to the winning SHDOFA team captains, Colin Murrells and Ken Poonoosamy, by Jacqui Jedrzejewski, our town mayor. After the official competition, a series of social matches took place aided no doubt by a copious supply of wine and nibbles to ensure the afternoon was as much in the French style as possible. It was certainly good to get together and meet people from another local organisation whose objectives and issues are similar to our own. A return match has already been penciled in and who knows, we may throw down the gauntlet to more local teams next summer! Our destination this time was the parc écomusée des années 1900 at St. Joseph Village, only 10 kilometres from Calais, near the marais de Guînes.

St. Joseph is a village from the past which has faithfully reproduced the village school, a windmill, the grocery shop, the blacksmith’s forge, the bakery, a bistro or estaminet, the printing works and the chapel as well as many other buildings and workshops which we could wander around. Everything has been constructed using the materials and tools of the time, all of which were on display in their correct settings. Rather worryingly, many of these items such as the wooden desks and inkwells in the school room brought back old memories for some whilst others breathed a sigh of relief that nowadays they could get all their shopping in bulk at the local supermarché. The weather was fine and sunny and after browsing round for a while we were able to take advantage of the bar and outside picnic area for a little refreshment. We were greeted there by Gérard Tancré and his wife Josette, Thérèse Dupont and her husband François, Bernard Coffyn, the Lambersart councilor responsible for twinning and his wife. Also still waiting for us was Guy Boursôt which was fortunate because Guy was responsible for bringing the wine. Unfortunately the crémant de Bourgogne which he had poured out as an apéro had gone a little flat due to our tardiness but that didn’t affect our enjoyment of it, or indeed that of the other different bottles he had brought for our dégustation during the meal.

After an excellent repas we repaired to Boursôts Wine Collection in the centre of Ardres with a view to stocking up ahead of Christmas. We also had some spare time to wander round this lovely old town once again renewing our acquaintance with the local shopkeepers.

New newsletter delivery method

Hi

Apologies for the repeat but we’re playing with a new delivery method for the newsletter. The trip has proved very popular and is now fully booked but it is quite likely that it will be repeated next year in view of the demand for places.

The tasting, to be accompanied by cheese and pâté, will take place in the cellars of ‘Boursot’s Wine Collection’ just off the cobbled Place d’Armes in the centre of this 17th century town. Three wreaths were laid at the tomb of the unknown soldier, one British, one, German and one French. One of the Viersen councillors, Hans-Henning Von Bassewitz, whose wife is French, spoke of his grandfather who was killed in 1914. He also made the point that ‘we are different nations but we have the same values and the same culture’.

Perhaps, more than anything, this was an occasion for the young French and German participants to say what they felt. The annual Armistice commemorations don’t often involve our youngsters for whom both world wars are a matter of history which they learn about at school. The following are some of the answers to the question, ‘Is peace a utopia’?
Clearly people were touched by the sincerity with which they spoke to their large audience:

“Peace is important. After the visit to Péronne, Vimy etc., we can really understand that.” - “If, 90 years ago, there had been exchanges between the young people of different countries there wouldn’t have been the war.” – “In 1946, the creation of the UN, countries promised each other eternal peace. Why then the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan. Algeria, Morocco, Indo-China, Georgia, Tibet and so many others? Why not use dialogue instead of weapons? We don’t go to the ballot box to choose what war we would like to see on TV.”

In response, the mayor of Lambersart, Marc-Philippe Daubresse, said that “at Lambersart, peace is no longer utopia but a reality for all time”.

This was a wonderful project conceived by the Lambersart branch of Amitiés Internationales and on which work began back in January. It was a great idea to include the children of all three countries as a central theme and a great shame that SHDOFA was not able to be present and play its part.

PAST AND PRESENT EXHIBITION

With the support of SAKA we were able to share a stand at Southborough’s Past and Present exhibition in Victoria Hall on Saturday 13th September that attracted a good turnout of people to look at many photographs and other items of interest from Southborough’s past.
